Choosing the right lintel product for your project
Most problems on site come from one thing: the wrong lintel being specified for the wall build-up or span. For solid walls and internal openings, standard prestressed concrete lintels usually do the job. For cavity walls, you’ll need a cavity lintel that supports both leaves and matches the cavity width. Box lintels are typically used where you want a clean internal finish or where structural and thermal performance need to work together. Single leaf lintels are used where only one masonry leaf needs support.

What’s the difference between a cavity lintel and a solid concrete lintel?
A cavity lintel is designed specifically for cavity wall construction, supporting both inner and outer leaves while allowing for insulation and DPCs. Solid prestressed concrete lintels are typically used in single leaf or solid wall applications where cavity support isn’t required.
How do I know what length of lintel I need?
Lintels should always extend beyond the opening to provide adequate bearing, usually a minimum of 150mm each side, depending on the lintel type and load. Measure the structural opening, then add the required bearing to determine the correct overall length.
Do I need a heavy-duty lintel for wider openings?
