Useful information about our range of sheet materials

Hardwood WBP plywood is the go-to where strength and moisture resistance matter. Use it for roofing decks, formwork, boxing-in and external applications where standard ply won’t last.

OSB is a cost-effective structural sheet for floors, walls and roofs. T&G OSB is commonly used for flooring where speed of install and reduced movement are key.

P5 chipboard is designed specifically for floors. If it’s going down on joists or over underfloor heating, this is the correct material, not standard chipboard.

MDF is about finish, not structure. Standard MDF is ideal for internal joinery, while moisture-resistant MDF should always be used in kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms.

Shuttering ply is made to take abuse. It’s used for concrete formwork where repeated pours are expected.

Fire boards like Masterboard are used where fire resistance is required such as ceilings, service risers, steel encasement and commercial partitions.

If you’re unsure, the quickest way to get it right is to think what’s going on top of it, what’s underneath it, and whether moisture or fire is involved.

FAQ’s:

What sheet material should I use for flooring?

For structural floors, use P5 chipboard or T&G OSB. P5 is preferred for domestic floors and underfloor heating; OSB is commonly used where additional strength or fixing retention is needed.

Do I need moisture-resistant boards in kitchens and bathrooms?

Yes. Moisture-resistant MDF or WBP plywood should always be used in areas with humidity. Standard MDF will swell if exposed to moisture.

Can you help me choose the right board if I’m unsure?

Yes. If you tell us where it’s being used and what’s going over it, we’ll point you to the correct sheet. It’s quicker than replacing the wrong material later.
